By 1890 Hosea Morril & Sylvia Knowlton rented the house. Mr. Knowlton was an attorney and Mrs. Knowlton founded the Marion Vistiing Nurse Association.

At one time is was a stopover for travelers called the Norton Tavern. Beginning in 1816, Captain James and Dolly Luce lived here, followed by Bessie D. Luce and Henry C. Luce.
