Marion - Shirley H. (Hartley) Miller, 81, of Marion died peacefully at home April 5, 2009. She was the wife of the late Roy W. Miller. Born in New Bedford, July 24, 1927, she was the daughter of the late James and Ada (Routh) Hartley who immigrated to the United States from England in the early 1920’s. She was the sister of the late Mary Hartley, Joan Sheridan and Florence Andresen. Traveling extensively throughout Europe, the Caribbean and Asia, her favorite trip was to Kenya in Africa. A devout animal lover, she enjoyed her dogs and cats immensely by giving of her time and compassion to her pets and those in shelters. Shirley was a member of the Beverly Yacht Club, Kittansett Club and the Sippican Tennis Club. She is survived by her sons, Peter Miller of Hyannisport, Chris Miller of So. Dartmouth and Lincoln Miller and his wife Patricia of Marion. She was the proud and loving grandmother of Elizabeth, Matthew and Andrew Miller. Also surviving is her brother in-law David Sheridan of Marion, her long-time bridge partner at Kittansett. A prolific clothes-shopper, Shirley enjoyed her Saturday trips to Mashpee Commons with her niece, Jennifer Cipriano of Marion. The Miller family would also like to thank Shirley’s friends, Jennie Baptiste, Josephine Gomes, Evelyn Barboza and the late Julia Ribiero for their decency, compassion and support. |
